Create The Look: French Traditional Home Interiors

The French Traditional style of home décor is I think at the very foundation of new and popular home interior designs and styling that you see popping up today. Though the modern take on this design style is a fusion of French Traditional and Rustic Farmhouse or Modern Industrial, I want to first take a look at the key design highlights of French Traditional interior design, and the elements that create the look and feel for this style.

You will first notice that French Traditional interiors usually start with a neutral colour palette with lots of whites, Ivories, and tans for wall colours. Accent colours are often gold or bronze with pops of colour in the furnishings such as shades of blues, pinks, reds, and greens.

Floral patterns are popular on throw pillows, rugs, tapestries, and wall art. The style loves curves and flourish patters, on anything from carved moldings and trim, carved furniture accents, to patterns on textiles. This is particularly appealing as it lends a softer, feminine, and elegant feel to the room.

Something you will also notice in a French Traditional interior is that large ornate mirrors and frames play a big part in setting the feel of the room. Light fixtures are meant to make a statement and be a focal point of a room. Often as lavish chandeliers adorned with hanging crystals. Furnishings are usually traditional in style with dainty Queen Anne style legs and wood carvings. Long elegant drapes are the window treatment of choice.

I have compiled some inspiration and examples of the French Traditional interiors in our Pinterest Board here: https://pin.it/4RCqUzq

Next time I hope to tackle the Rustic Farmhouse interior design style so stay tuned!
