Create The Look: French Farmhouse Home Interiors

This interior design style I would have to say is my absolute favourite. You get the best of both worlds with the fusion of the Traditional French Style and the Rustic Farmhouse Style. Let your imagination drift to a stone farmhouse set in the beautiful rolling hills of France amongst fields of lavender or vineyards as far as the eye can see. Now that we’re here let’s take a look inside and explore the wonders of what this interior design style has to offer.

The basic structure of the home is rustic. The walls are usually white or a neutral colour, often with plaster or stone. Floors are wood plank or stone and, in some cases, you may find a European tile. Ceilings are often wooden planks that are usually whitewashed and accented with majestic rustic beams.

Where you see the biggest Traditional French influences would be in the light fixtures and furnishings. Inside this fairly primitive home you will find the stark contrast of lavish crystal chandeliers, large ornate frames and mirrors, and French Provincial antique furniture. The French love for floral patterns can be found in artwork, fabrics, and decor details. Intertwined with this opulence is a mix of rustic elements such as distressed paint on furniture, home made quilts, cushions, comfy couches, and antiques, creating an old world look and bringing in a cozy feel to the space.

Kitchens usually have a large rangehood and shaker style cabinets. Open shelving and wine and plate racks are also popular. Adorning the counters is often antique food tins or jars for flour, sugar, and other cooking ingredients.

For each aspect of the room you have the freedom to lean towards either Traditional French or Rustic Farmhouse, as long as it is a balanced combination you can be sure to capture this charming interior design style
